Body cameras for cops

Baltimore, And Beyond

Flickr / Baltimore HeritageWe here in white America — and even though I am far from wealthy, I am still a part of the white, male power structure in this country — sometimes like to pretend that the issue of racism is a quaint remnant of our distant past, not worth discussing is this enlightened…
A body camera on every cop, that’s what

Well sometimes it’s counterproductive to let your emotions out

Shutterstock1. Showing your true emotions is something that makes you feel vulnerable and that’s not fun to do. 2. You don’t want to cry because someone else might start to cry and before you know it, it’s a big cry-fest. 3. Letting out a fart is a huge weight off your shoulders, so to speak.…

24 Reasons Why People Hold In Their Emotions, But Not Their Farts

Well last week my mother announced (in the middle of dinner) that she regrets having children because my sisters & I haven’t turned out like she wanted us to. I lfelt like saying “You don’t regret beating us, verbally abusing us, or anything you did to influence how we turned out, you only regret is birthing us” but that would have started world War 4. So I just kept eating burnt chicken & ignored her. Or the other night when my father expressed anger over Bruce Jenner’ transition into a woman, I wanted to say “Why we’re you never this angry at her when she hit us, when she hit you, but for rsomereason Bruce Jenner in a dress makes you mad enough you can’t eat” but I let it go. Rehashing those old chestnuts doesn’t do anybody any good. Better to save it for the shrink’s couch.

WHY do you have to explain ANYTHING about Bruce Jenner to your small child?

ABC NewsWell, Bruce Jenner is a woman now. Seems like a simple enough thing to understand, doesn’t it? I don’t have to explain it to you folks, but that’s because you’re adults. If you’re the least bit socially aware, you know what being transgender means. You can deduce what transitioning is, and you know that…

How Am I Going To Explain My Anger About Bruce Jenner To My Son?

Bruce Jenner is becoming a woman & some conservative people, including my 73 year old father, are angry about it and/or the publicity surrounding it. Me, I really don’t CARE if 65 year old Bruce Jenner wants to have a book job & wear dresses, it doesn’t impact my life. But will I be explaining to my three oyearold niece about the whole “men who want to be ladies” thing? Oh fuck no. She’s three, she doesn’t understand how or why her one year old brother “came out of mommy’s belly”, she just knows that when he gets into her stuff or gets more attention than she does, she’d like to send him back there. Men becoming women is a concept she’s not ready for. Tying her own shoes, reading, these are things she needs to learn about.

To inherit peace & quiet

Wanted us to. Well I regret having a mother who beat me every Saturday, but I don’t announce it at dinner. I regret not hitting you back. I regret every time I thought it was something I did when you smacked me. I regret every time I felt like a failure because I wasn’t good enough for the almighty perfect you.

If I don’t do as you say, I’ll inherit nothing when you die, you love to threaten me with that. But I’m not here for an inheritance. When you die, the only thing I hope to inherit I’d peace & quiet. So you take your promise of money that you dangle in front of me and shove it, OK. Because most of all, I regret that I came out of your body.

Is hate really the right word?

I will be the first person to tell you that I love characters. Obviously, the plot of a story is important, but if the reader doesn’t fall in love with a character or two, the plot doesn’t matter. Dan Brown’s books have been huge successes in the past that have spawned copycats. I think I’ve…

Why I Hate Damsels In Distress

The “damsel in distress” character in fiction BELIEVES someone is coming to save her. She waits, tied to the tracks, for the hero to rescue her because it never occurred to her that heroes don’t fucking exist. And in fiction the hero ALWAYS saves the girl, because that makes for the happy ending.

Well my life is no fiction. My mother beat me when I was a child & my father was such a prince he sat his ass on the barca lounger and WATCHED HER BEAT ME. My grandfather raped me & nobody rescued me from that. By the time I was in fifth grade, I knew that if I were tied to the tracks a LA Lillian Gitch, nobody would swoop in & rescue me just in time. And while I wanted to punch the damsel in distress character in fiction at times, I find I can’t really hate her. She’s naive & stupid, but I would be too if life hadn’t made me the hardboiled bitch I came to be.

Mansplaining happens

Flickr / emilykneeterLast week the Everyday Sexism Project turned three, and celebrated the day by asking women to share their stories with the #everydaysexism hashtag. More than fifty thousand tweets documented the sexism and misogyny deeply ingrained into western culture, and gained a lot of attention. #everydaysexism is when your male students think its o.k.…

The men mansplain. But hey, if they wanna be misogynistic assholes, then I have no choice but to be the cast-iron bitch right back at them.

I raised my glass in salute to her, got off the barstool, and prepared to go get a sexy creature of my own. As I strolled around, scoping things and people out, I felt like having a cigarette. Yes, New York City is one of those places where it is illegal to smoke anywhere indoors, but Paddles is one of those places where that particular law is flouted. So I fished a cigarette out of my bag but couldn’t find my lighter. Isn’t THAT always the way. “Goddamn it,” I said to nobody in particular, “ANYBODY GOT A LIGHT? ANYBODY?” From seemingly out of nowhere, a book of matches was shoved in my hand. I didn’t see who handed it to me, but when I opened to get a match and light up, I saw that the following two words had been scrawled on the inside in black: BATHROOM NOW! Talk about a cryptic message. I lit up and headed for the toilets. There were no separate men’s and ladies’ rooms at Paddles, just a communal unisex bathroom with stalls and urinals. The club was packed, so there should have been people in there…Doms peeing on their subs, or watching their subs pee. But it was empty. Or it seemed empty. I went down the row of stalls, checking in each one. Maybe someone had just handed me a matchbook and the message hadn’t been meant for me. I was checking the last stall more to be thorough than because I actually thought anyone waited for me by that point when a hand shot out, grabbed my arm, and pulled me into the stall in one fluid movement. Before I knew which end was up, another hand was around my throat, my face was pressed into the wall, and I heard the stall door being locked.

“Well look who came back,” a familiar voice said as I felt Angelo’s hot breath in my ear. I wanted to scream, to shout at him to get the fuck off me. But of course I could do no such thing. Could barely breathe with his hand around my throat. Why did he have to have such big hands, goddamn him. He squeezed my throat harder and I started to think I was done for.

Then I thought I heard something fluttering or flapping, or maybe I was starting to black out. Someone or something kicked in the stall door and Angelo’s hand was somehow gone from around my throat. Not knowing what the FUCK was going on, I kept my face pressed against that wall.

Presently a gravelly voice said, “It’s safe now, you can come out.” I didn’t ask to see his face, I just got on all fours…I LOVED that position anyway. It sounded like…sausage being removed from a latex glove, that’s an odd sound, I know, but that’s what it sounded like for a minute, and then he entered me. And he was magnificent. Gripping my breast with one hand and flicking the nipple, he simultaneously thrust his thickness into me deeper and harder each time.

“Ohhhhhhhhh my god,” I moaned, “ohhhhhhhhh yes.”

He made some sort of a guttural noise that I didn’t recognize as an actual WORD and just kept thrusting. And just when I thought he was about to come, he flipped me over into a spread eagle position and started doing me from the front. This guy was a goddamn machine.

“Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhmygod ohhhhhhhhhhhmygod ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yes, YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!” I could not believe that I was actually having EPIC sex with a man who thought he was Batman. Or maybe he really IS Batman. Whatever, I was having EPIC sex. Did it matter who the man was or wasn’t.

Anyway, this morning I awoke feeling sated. I licked my lips like the cat that swallowed the canary, called out, “SIR, I AM WORTHY OF HAVING BEEN SELECTED BY YOU!” but nobody answered me. I felt the bed next to me, but it was empty. I sat up and realized I was in my own goddamn bedroom at home. Had the Batman and his subterranean Gothic playroom all been a dream? I stood up and went to the full-length mirror. Well, if it had been a dream, it had been a pretty fucking vivid one, because there, across my buttocks, were the marks of the cat o’nine. It was hot as a crotch when I stepped into Paddles. I half expected the whole club to stop and stare at me. It had, after all, been a year and a half since I’d been in the place. But no, nothing stopped. The music continued, Doms kept right on spanking subs. Maybe nobody recognized me since Id lost a hundred lbs. Maybe they didn’t register it was me now that I’m sober (last time I’d been in here I reeked of bourbon so badly I might as well have marinated in it) but whatever. I was dressed in a Catholic school uniform, y’know, the plaid skirt, white blouse, knee socks, Mary Janes. Tonight could be the night I meet my new Daddy Dom.

OK I never fucked my own siblings, but I fucked two guys who happen to be brothers (they have the msame mother, different fathers & different last names & I didn’t know right off the bat they were brothers).

Likewise, I never paid for sex, but when I was ten & my grandfather raped me, he gave me money after. Does that count as having been paid for sex?

A little perspective

Here’s the deal, It’s not so much that this is us, POC, thinking all white people are against us, and out to get us, because that really isn’t the case a lot of times. But we need to acknowledge the fact that yes; this challenge is blatant racism, and cultural appropriation. The main problem we…

Why The #KylieJennerChallege Is Taking It Too Far
Kylie Jenner bought herself new lips & likes to wear corn rowed hair, so what…her father was on the cover of yesterday’s New York Daily News wearing a floor length dress. Kids who grow up in dysfunctional families often don’t know who or what they are.

As excruciating as talking about a is…

via Flickr – John Patrick RobichaudSo, rape. There’s so much stigma attached to it. There’s so much taboo, ignorance, prejudice and generalizations encompassing it. It would be so much easier to pretend it never happened at all than to get to the crux of what it really means and why it happens or how it…

10 Reactions That Make Talking About Rape Excruciating

…keeping it a secret is worse. When my grandfather raped me, I was ten…I didn’t even know what he did to me was sex, only that it hurt & he was so desperate to keep me quiet during it that he put his hand a round my throat & threatened to choke me if I made a sound. I was terrified of him while he lived, & even after he died, I felt like what happened was my fault (that I somehow seduced him or allowed it to happen).
